In Tim Ferriss’ book “Tools of Titans” he recounts an interview with Google legend Chade-Meng Tan.
Meng led the creation of the Google Search Inside Yourself emotional intelligence course (I highly recommend it!)
Here’s a summary of the 3 Meditation Practice Tips Meng discusses:
1) Have a Buddy
Just like you might have a ‘gym buddy’ find a ‘mindfulness buddy’. Commit to checking in with each other 15 minutes every week. My brother Rob is my mindfulness buddy and he keeps me on track.
2) Do Less Than You Can
If you can sit in mindfulness for 5 minutes, just do 4 minutes. Sit often for short periods. Keep the practice from becoming a burden but rather an indulgence.
3) Take One Breath a Day
Just commit to one mindful breath a day. If you breath in and out mindfully just once a day your day is fulfilled and everything else is a bonus. While you might say you don’t have 10 minutes in a day to meditate you can’t say you don’t have time for one deep mindful breath right?
Don’t underestimate the power of one mindful breath.
